Nikon Coyote Hunting Scope

The Coyote hunting has become a lot more popular in  the US due to the upsurge in their numbers and the challenge to hunt these predators.  Killing of commercial animals as well as wild game such as deer and turkey by coyotes is a big problem today.   Almost all states have very long hunting seasons for coyote with generous bag limits to try to control this varmint’s population growth.

Coyotes are very smart animals and are very difficult to hunt. They feature excellent vision, very good hearing and scent detection.  By using calls, either electronic or orally produced, hunters attempt to get coyotes within rifle range. When moved by the hunter’s signals, coyotes most likely will come from downwind to check the wind prior to moving in close.  If the hunter is a caller and he is lucky, he may get a chance.  Getting off a clean shot at a coyote is one of the greatest challenges a hunter can face.

In order to help meet the unique challenges of coyote hunting, Nikon [developed|made|created] the Nikon Coyote scopes.  It is a Nikon Buckmaster scope with a special Bullet Drop Compensating (BDC) reticle, available camo finishes, and an anti-reflective device (ARD).

The Bullet Drop Compensating reticle is calibrated to|for the .223, 55 grain round zeroed at 100 yards or the 22-250, 55 grain round zeroed at 200 yards.  The function of the BDC reticle is to accurately place shots beyond the distance that you zeroed your rifle in at.  The BDC holdover reference circles are large, that lets you to track the coyote accurately even as it continues to move.

The Nikon Coyote scopes are available in matte black or 2 camo finishes.  The camo will match some of the new camo varmint rifles available in stores, and when combined with full body camo it will defeat the ability of a coyote to see the hunter.  Matching camo rings are also for sale.

The ARD installs directly onto the objective bell of the scope.  It features a honey-comb pattern that eliminates glare off the objective lens that could spook a coyote.  The interesting part of it is the shooter cannot see the ARD when looking through the scope.  The shooter always has a clear field of view.

The Nikon Coyote Special scopes come in 3-9x40mm and 4.5-14x40mm.  For shots under 200 yards the 3-9x40mm will be enough magnification.  For shots at 200 yards or longer the 4.5-14x40mm will be the better choice.
