Do The Deer Hide In The Fall?

November 28, 2009 · Filed Under Hunting

Every time I go deer hunting in the fall it seems those elusive deer have just disappeared to some other planet, but yet I spot them all summer long either on the road getting in the way of traffic or eating in the field next to me.
They don’t really leave, they are still around except they all hind very well. White tail deer can hide in the most unsuspecting places. If you scouted them then they really are still there in most cases. What you need to do is hunt off the beaten path or where you normally wouldn’t go.

Did you know that wildlife biologists concluded that there are more trophy buck in the wild then ever before. Their study showed that there are over 30 million whitetail deer in North America alone. Getting them is the next big question. I have proven that you can reduce the luck factor in deer hunting and consistently get those trophies by understanding and applying some knowledge about the whitetail deer. So I have a few good deer hunting tips that have helped me well in the past and I learned these years ago from an old pro, my dad.

  • First you have to know when to look for them and where they like to hang out. Bucks are always seeking a hot doe so look for doe bedding areas and always hunt down wind. A buck will alway do a sent check in the bedding areas so you best bet would be to sent the bedding areas. Also look for Oak trees because the deer know to be there when the nuts start fall.
  • A few days before peak breeding begins, which outside of the deep south, falls somewhere between November 7 and 10 is the best time to get that trophy buck is the most intense part of the rut.
  • My hidden secret, I use a deer scent called Tink’s #69 Gel Buck Attractant that has worked for 17 times out 15 I used it. There has been only times where it did not work and on that particular day no one out of the five in my party seen a deer the entire day.

Remember to scout early and find the doe bedding areas and Oak trees so you can place your Treestand in the right place for when the right time presents itself.
