Bowhunting Gear For Each Phase Of Bow Hunting Is Available

March 1, 2011 · Filed Under Hunting · Comment

If you have ever wanted to try your hand at bow hunting, you can be sure that the sport will not be that difficult for you to play. This is one outdoor sport that has a complete selection of bowhunting gear for ease and accuracy of execution and game enjoyment. Everything from locating a good hunting ground, to deploying scrape baits, to getting visuals on your prey and making the perfect aim has been simplified with gadgetry.

The trail camcorder

This visual bowhunting gear is able to display scenes in two ways, night and day vision. For the times when the hunter may want to take a picture of the beautiful landscape, day vision produces a faithful reproduction. But for strictly bow hunting use, trail cameras can show images in infra-red light. This mode can be applied at any time of the day because the objective is not to recreate the view but to furnish data to the bow hunter. Are there animals circulating? Were there animals recently that fled when the hunter arrived? What direction did they go towards? Is that a deer or a rabbit that is making the commotion in the bushes? Or is it just the wind?

Deer Bait

Another bowhunting gear that is very helpful to have is the scrape enhancer. These are sprayed onto the scrape or bait that have to be scattered in the hunting area. Enhancers serve to make the bait more enticing to deer. If scrape enhancers are used on scrape bait for sometime before the hunting season opens, the deer will learn to visit the area often.

Game ears

Game ears are bowhunting gear that enhances the hunter’s ability to hear animal sounds. They selectively adjust the receptiveness of your ears to high frequency vibrations while at the same time muting sounds which can harm your ear. This device is very effective for hearing deer sounds at a distance.

Scent removers

As the name implies, scent removers remove the scent tracks of the hunter in order not to alarm animals who may pass through an area where the hunter was holding out. This bowhunting gear also prevents the odor of humans from wafting in the wind and possibly alerting animals who are some distance downwind. This gadget uses small quantities of ozone to neutralize smells in the air, on the ground and on trees

Camouflage sweat shirts

There are also clothes in bowhunting gear that are so designed and dyed as to be indistinguishable from the natural environment. They usually come in fatigue shades, similar to the color of military combat clothes. When the hunter is standing among the trees, he is practically made invisible. The moment when the hunter takes his aim is crucial in bow hunting and these camouflage clothes are very useful for keeping the hunter hidden even when he is in aiming position.

A huge selection of broad heads

The favorite arrow of bow hunters is the broad head, so called because of the triangular shape of the blade. These are more efficient in slaying the prey instantaneous. They are no longer constructed the way they were traditionally. Instead of fixing the wings of the blade, they are concealed in the blade until it makes impact. Then the wings or side blades are extruded with force. Doc No:1211-FB-ULT10-dc11zd

922(r) Compliance And The Saiga 12 Shotgun

March 1, 2011 · Filed Under Hunting · Comment

Many US three-gun competition shooters have adopted the Izhmash Saiga 12 shotgun.  The Saiga 12 is a redesigned AK adapted to feed rimmed shotgun ammo and fitted with a semi auto only trigger and sporter stock. An industry has grown up around supplying US made parts and accessories for these weapons. Annoyingly a transfer bar is used to enable an additional trigge to pull the original one. This, as you might expect, was not a good idea. In the States, owners often replace this Rube Goldberg sporter trigger with a US made AK group. This makes for a much better shooting shotgun

It is now possible to add a bunch of other components such as pistol grips, folding stocks, rail systems and high capacity mags. The Sunset of the 1994 assault weapon ban made this possible. US Code Title 18 Section 922(r) mandates that you can’t have more than 10 non US parts in the weapon from a list of 10 designated ‘important’.

The Saiga 12 as imported has 14 imported 922(r) parts, so if you take off the 5 round non US mag you deduct three imported parts. If you go for a US manufactured Saiga 12 mag, you add three US made parts taking the total down to 11, BUT you lose the ‘sporting’ exemption and it becomes an illegal weapon. It is risky to rely on Saiga mags to attain 922(r) compliance as someone arguably only needs to swap your magazine for an imported unit to make the weapon illegal.

One way round this is to change out one more 922(r) part for a US made version – typically the gas piston – taking you down to the magic number of 10 and a legally compliant weapon. Unless of course you live in California (where the magazine must be locked to the weapon) or in other states which have magazine capacity limits or various other parts of the 1994 AWB incorporated into State or municipal laws. Obviously, most shooters are going to want to turn their Saiga into something a bit more martial looking and components are available to replace almost anything other than the receiver group with a US made version. You can read an excellent article on 922(r) compliance  here.

Canned Hunting Is Effectively Trophy Hunting

March 1, 2011 · Filed Under Hunting · Comment

Canned hunting is effectively trophy hunting. A canned hunt is a type of hunt that involves the hunter being essentially promised a kill by a hunting agency or governing body. The activity basically takes place on the grounds that the host of the hunt, whether a hunting agency or private party, captures an animal and releases it in a generally enclosed area to be hunted by the hunter. The enclosed area tends to be a small fenced in area so that the kill comes rather easily to the hunter.

Naturally, there have been all sorts of ethical issues involving canned hunting. Through the years, the controversy and criticism of canned hunting has reached a fever pitch. Rightly so, as the issue with canned hunting is one more directed towards animal cruelty than any other type of hunt. The animal is captured and “canned”, giving it no original chance for survival. This type of simplistic approach to hunting is often polarizing to many within the hunting community, some of which appreciate the delicate balance of nature in its own right.

The United States actually has a set line of legislation regarding canned hunting because of the criticism. In the Sportsman Hunting Act of 2005, the United States proclaimed that anyone who transports an exotic animal for the purposes of canned hunting shall be fined or put in prison for no longer than one year. While the penalties are not all that tough, the sentiment is still resounding. The United States government does not particularly qualify what constitutes an “exotic animal”, however, and this has led to some confusion among canned hunters.

The critique involving canned hunting is rather obvious. Animal rights groups claim that is it cruelty to animals and, while they protest all types of hunting, their position is somewhat more compelling when it is amplified by other hunting groups. Certain hunting groups claim that canned hunting takes away from the element of the “fair chase” or the “fair catch”. In other words, hunting groups typically claim that part of the adventure of the hunt is, of course, the hunt. Without the hunt, hunting is left to barbaric slaughter. These hunting groups claim that canned hunting simply strips away any of the elements of survival in terms of hunting and brings it down to its most animalistic classification.

Naturally, another opponent of canned hunting is the North American Humane Society. They claim that canned hunting represents cruel activity towards animals and exists to promote brutality towards animals. The hunted animal, according to the Humane Society, has literally no chance to escape and is essentially a victim of terrorism by the hunter and the hunting party. The animal is captive and is nearly tortured by the psychological implications of being in captivity and then being hunted while in such captivity.

There are several incidents in current events which reflect canned hunting. The United States Vice President Dick Cheney is said to be a fan of canned hunting, once apparently bagging around seventy ringneck pheasants on a hunt in which the pheasants were captured and then released in a specific area upon Cheney’s request. Of course, the most famous Dick Cheney canned hunting incident likely involved the shooting of Harry Whittington. It is not known if Cheney has any objections to canned hunting on a moral level, however, as the Vice President tends to be known for a certain level of ambiguity.

Canned hunting represents a great deal of controversy and criticism in America. It is not looked at favorably at all and, instead, is rather shamed even within the hunting community. As the community of hunters tends to progress and allow for nature to operate on its own constraints within their boundaries, canned hunting tends to represent all that is wrong with human interference on its most brutal and basic level. Canned hunting is not hunting at all; it is simply a deadly game of capture and kill that gives the animal no chance to run.

The manufacturer was launched in 1852 by Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson, and Springfield, Massachusetts is home to the company headquarters.  It is identified on the NASDAQ stock exchange, and provides standard issue handguns as well as revolvers to law enforcement around the world.

Lots of other products are marketed by Smith & Wesson. These products incorporate gun accessories, safes, wrist watches, handcuffs, tools, clothing, collectibles and flashlights. The company likewise markets high quality blades which include Smith and Wesson spring assisted knives as well as fixed blade knives. Spring assisted knives operate like a switchblade, but they are basically not illegal. The knife is able to open up by means of pushing a thumb stud or a flipper stud.

There are various Smith and Wesson knives designed for both sportsmen and lawmen. The Smith & Wesson Black Ops 3 Series (SWBLOP3) incorporates a handle pattern which is truly unique. It happens to be made with an ergonomic composite so it has good action and superior, tight lock up. A thumb stud or a spine trigger makes it easy to open up the blade. The spine trigger is a great new feature with the 3 series. Halfway down the blade it also possesses a slide safety.

The SWBLOP3 carries a removable pocket clip and so the knife can ride deep in your pocket. The black Teflon covered 4034 stainless steel blade arrives in the box razor sharp. You may get a basic smooth edge and a partially serrated edge. Different colors for the knife include green, black or desert tan. The spring for the blade is rather strong so that the knife opens up very easily and aggressively, and then the blade is tight in the open position due to the liner lock.

Smith and Wesson spring assisted knives incorporate the all new brand of knives named Military & Police MAGIC assist knives. MAGIC is an acronym for Multipurpose Assisted Generational Innovative Cutlery, and they will may appear to function with magic. The knives possess a thumb stud upon the blade’s spine and also a secure slide lock. By simply pulling the thumb stud the blade springs out very quickly. If it’s not fast, loosen the screw at the top of the handgrip by a fraction of a turn.

The MAGIC assist knife series has three main classifications, each one having a distinct blade shape. The 1′s possess drop point style blades, the 2′s blade are fashioned with a scoop back and then the 3′s feature tanto points. Each individual classification has a range of blade edges and colors. Bowhunting Is Easier With Optics

February 21, 2011 · Filed Under Hunting · Comment

For easily locating and targeting prey, today’s optics for bowhunting have many effective gadgets for bow hunters. The first of these is the trail camera. Secondly we have the range finders. Thirdly we have those attachments on the bow which are called the sights.

Today’s optics for bowhunting include a trail camera

There are two ways that you can use a trail camera. One is for monitoring a scene or taking pictures in natural daylight. The other is to use the camera for night vision with infra-red light. Although this mode is specially appropriate for night time viewing, it may be used as well in the daytime. Body heat shows as patches of red on the display. This makes it easier to detect whether the rustling of leaves is caused by a deer, a rabbit or the wind; Only the deer or rabbit will show on the display.

Additionally, trail cameras can trace the direction of fleeing animals for as long as the camera catches that area while the tracks are still warm. This enables the bowhunter to find the prey easier if they move to another location.

Range finder

Another helpful accessory among today’s optics for bowhunting are range finders. They determine how far the hunter is from his prey. Knowing this piece of information is important for adjusting the pins of the bow sight correctly. The pin should be raised or lowered as indicated by the range finder.

A pin is normally calibrated with values standing for that intervening distance. Once fixed at a certain calibration, the top of the pin indicates where the arrow will land. That distance is difficult to assess by visual inspection, especially if the target is a considerable length away.

A range finder makes sure that you have selected the right calibration on the pin and that the tip of the pin is on the part of the animal’s body you intend to target.

The sights of the bow

A compound hunting bow is usually fitted with a pair of sights. One is attached to the bow itself and is called a bow sight. The other is called a peep sight and needs to be fastened on the bowstring at the point on the string with which the hunter’s eye is normally aligned after the string is retracted. The two sights allow the hunter to angle his shot better since if both are aligned with the point targeted, the hunter’s arrow is on a straight path ahead. In today’s optics for bowhunting, there may be one or several pins running horizontally across the bow sight. They may be pushed down or pulled up their slots as indicated by the value computed by the range finder.

Today’s optics for bowhunting give the hunter a greater accuracy of aim

Even the best archers miss their marks without bowhunting optics. If the animal is lucky, the arrow will miss it completely. Otherwise, the arrow may wound the animal instead of killing it. The animal will flee if it is able. But if the wound inflicted is mortal, it will eventually die in the field unless the hunter catches up with it.

February 21, 2011 · Filed Under Hunting · Comment

You will find currently several dozen handheld rangefinders in the marketplace, most could be broke down into three primary categories: Hunting, Golf, and Survey. Hunting rangefinders are obviously designed for the hunter like the newcon rangefinder, but there is a great amount of variety in the choice of these kinds of rangefinders as you will find several sub classes in the Hunting rangefinder area.

These range finders are usually designed for ranging animals at nearby distances as shots more than one hundred meters aren’t needed by bow hunters like cheap rifle scopes. Often times these units may possess a lower zoom to assist the user range the particular animal faster at shut range.  Many bow hunters choose to involve some type of angle compensation characteristic on their rangefinders, particularly the ones that hunt from tree stands as these models may also factor in the angle of the shot, which often can impact the spot that the bow hunter aims.  Optics manufacturer Leupold has just lately launched a distinctive archery rangefinder that mounts on to your bow and could be applied at complete draw; however; this gadget is not legal for hunting applications in all states.

All around rangefinders see use during both archery and rifle season. They are generally capable of varying objectives at several hundred meters, and often have capabilities that are well-liked by both rifle and bow hunters, such a goal priority modes and a scan mode. Many of these systems also have either a gun and bow mode which allows the user to choose which mode greatest fits their present hunting situation.

Rangefinders created particularly for rifle hunting are often of larger zoom as compared to other hunting rangefinders.  While numerous of these rangefinders designed for rifle hunting do a scan mode, numerous lack an angle compensation element that is found on lots of other hunting range finders.  Several of these models are also of a slimmer style and they are placed flat like binoculars, rather than top to bottom like a monocular. This lets the hunter to keep the unit stable simpler for long range targeting.

Hunting rangefinders are actually integrated into other hunting optics such as field glasses and rifle scopes. These two kind of products are still usually quite expensive but prices have begun to fall as technology has improved and levels of competition has increased.  Start looking for these units to gain in popularity as the advantage of dealing with much less pieces of gear in to the arena is treasured by hunters, particularly those that spend lots of time hiking challenging terrain.
